Catholic Charities employs more than 400 people in the counties of Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren. In total, 36 staff members received service awards, ranging from 5 years to 35 years. Their annual Staff Appreciation Day was held on September 14, 2016 at Forrest Lodge in Warren, NJ.
Executive Director, Marianne Majewski encouraged staff to take time to reflect, “Last year we served more than 54,000people in the Diocese of Metuchen. That doesn’t happen by itself. We have experienced and dedicated people who work individually, and together, to create a compassionate net of relief for the most vulnerable people in our community. It is your perseverance that makes it possible to deliver services that offer hope, give people faith and let people know you care…that is love.”
Catholic Charities operates more than 100 programs in the four counties of the Diocese of Metuchen. Services provided by Catholic Charities are varied and include programs to help people meet their basic needs, housing and shelters, maternity services, counseling, immigration, child care and youth services.
That hasn’t always been the case, according to Christine Benitez, Chief Financial Officer and 20 year award recipient. “I worked for both public and corporate accounting firms before coming to Catholic Charities in 1996. Catholic Charities was experiencing tremendous growth, and I really wanted to help Catholic Charities to position itself for the future. Since then, we’ve evolved into four corporations. But that’s the business side”, said Benitez, who attributes her tenure with Catholic Charities to the people, most influential of these, Executive Director, Marianne Majewski, who herself received a 35 year service award at the event. “I have learned so much from her about being a manager, and working with people in a leadership role. Marianne leads by example. I feel fortunate to work with some of the best staff, and am inspired by the dedication of our staff members who work with clients, and how our work changes lives.”
