Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen will host the 2017 Champions for Catholic Charities Dinner on Monday, October 16 at the Palace in Somerset Park, Somerset. The event this year will highlight the partnership between Catholic Charities and a local business. Proceeds from the dinner the will support Catholic Charities’ ongoing efforts in providing assistance to the poor and vulnerable throughout Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties.
This year’s honorees are the employees of American Standard, the plumbing supply manufacturer that is part of LIXIL. The Piscataway-headquartered company, known internationally for its corporate social responsibility activities, recently partnered with Catholic Charities to convert Naomi’s Way from a women’s transitional shelter to a permanent affordable-housing facility for the previously homeless and persons with special needs. “Providing solutions that make life healthier, safer and more comfortable has always been at the core of the LIXIL corporate values,” said Jeannette Long, vice president, marketing communications at LIXIL Americas. “Naomi’s Way provided us with the perfect opportunity to bring our mission to life and make a difference in the lives of families in need in our local community.”
To upgrade the 12 apartments, American Standard provided over $100,000 in products and more than 300 volunteer hours worked by 40 LIXIL employees. It also helped to secure additional product and labor donations from other building and construction manufacturers, including Somerset-based Philips Lighting, the North Brunswick Sherwin Williams store and Leviton of Melville, New York.
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen is one of the largest non-profit social service agencies in the state of New Jersey assisting all those in need regardless of race, religion or ethnicity through more than 100 programs. “The challenges are many, and we can’t do it alone,” said executive director, Marianne Majewski. “It is a great pleasure to shine a light on American Standard for their incredible leadership and generosity. They are true champions for Catholic Charities, and we hope their initiative will inspire both corporations and private individuals to help support the services we provide for thousands of men, women and children every day.”
