Despite the snow, six pallets of clothing and household goods were separated and loaded into vans headed for Catholic Charities Diocese of Metuchen offices by store associates, who shared in the celebration of the Grand Opening of Burlington Coat Factory in East Brunswick, NJ on Friday, March 10, 2017.
Burlington Coat Factory held a Grand Opening at its new store on Racetrack Rd. in East Brunswick, NJ, on Friday, March 10, 2017. Store Manager, Dean Chiarella and District Manager, Kim Marin presented Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen with a generous donation of goods and clothing to support residents at The Ozanam Family Shelter in Edison, NJ. The Ozanam Family Shelter provides emergency shelter for 16 single women and 26 families. While living in the shelter, program residents work with case managers to improve their earning capacity and obtain permanent housing.
In addition to Burlington Coat Factory, Catholic Charities Housing & Social Justice Service Area Director, Rebecca Rhoads, credits K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers for making the match between Burlington Coat Factory and the Shelter. K.I.D.S./FashionDelivers unites retailers, manufacturers, foundations and individuals to provide people impacted by poverty and tragedy with new merchandise, effectively distributed through a network of agency partners to offer hope, dignity and self-esteem to at-risk children, families, and individuals.
“Working with K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers makes sense, because our values are aligned,” said Catholic Charities Executive Director, Marianne Majewski, who emphasized the lack of affordable housing in Middlesex County. “According to the National Low-Income Housing Coalition, for every 100 ‘extremely low-income’ households, there are less than 31 units of available and affordable rental housing, and sadly, one in 30 children will experience homelessness in their lifetime. Catholic Charities supports those in the community who are poor, devalued or disenfranchised as they face these daily challenges. We can’t do it alone and are very grateful to Burlington Coat Factory and K.I.D.S./FashionDelivers for this donation,” she said.
Last year, Catholic Charities served 54,000 people in the Diocesan counties of Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren. Those wishing to support the work of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen can make an online donation at
