According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In fact, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and all clients from both CCDOM SPIRIT programs will be given bracelets with a message on the inside and outside. Individuals can flip the message based on how they are doing that day.
One message is “I count today as a good day”. And the alternate message is “Today feels hard”. This is a simple but meaningful way to let the clients express how they are doing without having the say the words.
CCDOM of Somerset County’ SPIRIT program (Supportive Partners in Recovery and Treatment), with teams in both Bridgewater and Flemington, is an intensive outpatient program that provides individualized acute outpatient mental health care, providing Individual, family and group therapies, and support groups.
