Students from the World Language Honor Societies from Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung recently hosted a diaper drive to benefit Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen’s New Brunswick childcare programs and Unity Square Neighborhood. Senior students from the Mount Language Honor Societies used their talents to create a video (

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen operates two full day quality early learning programs in New Brunswick serving over 350 district preschool students. The programs follow the Tools of the Mind curriculum abiding by district and state guidelines. The centers are supported by district funds and are free to those enrolled. All classrooms are taught by a certified teacher and teacher assistant. Additional family supports are embedded into the services provided.
Unity Square is a community organizing and social concerns initiative of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen that works to empower community members and catalyze change in the residential neighborhood of New Brunswick, NJ. Unity Square’s efforts focus on a target neighborhood of about 6,000 low-income residents. Most neighborhood families are working poor, and have young children. Unity Square addresses a diverse set of issues, including economic development, employment, civic participation, immigrants’ rights, and tenants’ rights. More recently, Unity Square began an emergency food distribution as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since April 2020, Unity Square has provided emergency food bags to over 1,000 unique households.
Students from the World Language Honor Societies from Mount Saint Mary Academy collected over 100 packs of diapers, wipes, as well as books that we were donated to Catholic Charities to help families in the Unity Square neighborhood as well as students enrolled in the Agency’s early learning programs in New Brunswick.
