The Senior Shopper Program in Somerset County, which provides volunteers to grocery shop for seniors so they can remain in their own home, held a volunteer appreciation breakfast recently for National Volunteers Week. Program Supervisor, Lori Soto and Volunteer Coordinator, Bob Hurte, thanked the volunteers for the countless hours they spend providing shopping services and visiting with the homebound seniors in the program, which is operated by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen.
Guest speaker, Lisa Troulis, Case Manager for the County Office on Aging, discussed the important role the volunteers play in ensuring the well-being of the senior they are matched with, by observing their condition face to face. There are currently 34 volunteers who work with the Senior Shopper Program in the County.
