Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen (CCDOM) held a luncheon on June 27
th to honor volunteers at the Willows in Asbury, NJ. Thirty-five volunteers attended the celebration. The volunteers generously give of their time and talent at the Catholic Charities Social Service Center and Thrift Store that are co-located at 387 South Main Street in Phillipsburg, NJ. Program Director, Sister Michaelita Popovice opened the festivities by quoting Radio Talk Show Host, Bernard Meltzer, “There is no better exercise for your heart, than reaching down and helping to lift someone up.” “This is what we do at Catholic Charities”, Sister added.

Guest Speaker, Dr. Frank J. Gilly addressed the group. Dr. Gilly, whose specialties include Geriatric and Family Medicine, received his medical degree from John’s Hopkins and served Warren County in Family Practice, as Director of Warren Haven, the county’s nursing home, and as Medical Director at Warren Hospital. Presently, Dr. Gilly volunteers his time and shares his talent with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen at the Agency’s Food Pantry and Thrift Store.
The Food Pantry, operated by CCDOM is the largest in Warren County, NJ and services more than 1000 households. The Thrift Store provides discounted items to those in need and generates funds to help operate the Warren Basic Material Needs Program. Last year, more than 50,000 people received services agency wide in the counties of Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex and Warren.
