Life Skills Specialist -Perth Amboy, NJ

• Annual Salary = $52,000

The Life Skills Specialist is responsible for providing direct services to youth ages 17-22 transition out of resource home care, in the form of weekly community based face-to-face sessions, case management, information and referral, education, crisis response and advocacy utilizing the LifeSet model.

This job requires flexibility, good judgement, the ability to work with adolescents and young adults, as well as interfacing with community resources, a professional demeanor, and teamwork.

Responsibilities:

• Provides services to address the needs of young people ages 17-22 who are transitioning out of resource home/foster care or are already living independently and need individualized skill development and support to transition successfully into adulthood.
• Skill development may include obtaining and maintaining safe and stable housing, continuing their education, learning independent living skills, obtaining and maintaining employment, building a support system, and remaining free from legal involvement.
• Specialists primarily work in the field and will have access to an agency vehicle, cell phone and laptop.
• Specialists will be provided with training in an evidence-based model utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing and expected to adhere to this model throughout the intervention.
• This position requires a flexible schedule.

Requirements:

• BA/BS in a social service field plus one year experience is required; MS preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Work independent and with a team, strong organizational skills, knowledge of the community, and ability to advocate for youth.
• 24/7 crisis response coverage required.
• Acceptable driver’s license history.
