Too big, too small, too short, out of style, or maybe you're just tired of it! Gently used clothing items, that your family doesn't need anymore, can do a lot of good for people who are less fortunate. Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen makes it easy to donate clothing and household goods at collection points throughout the four counties of the Diocese.
Catholic Charities accepts clothing, small appliances seasonal items, decorations, and costume jewelry at the Thrift Store at its Social Service Center on South Main Street in Phillipsburg. There are also 42 clothing drop-off boxes that benefit the agency located mostly outside of churches in Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren.
Groups can conduct their own clothing or food drives and make arrangements for pick up with Catholic Charities. Boston University alumni in New Jersey recently collected 25 bags of clothing for the Thrift Store in an effort organized by Diocese of Metuchen staffer and BU alumna Tammy Hemingway, as part of BU's annual Global Days of Service. They also collected 10 bags of food for the Pantry at the Center. Proceeds from the event will support the work of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen. In 2015, Catholic Charities served 53,000 people through 103 programs in the four counties of the diocese, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity.
