The adopt a family program identifies the needy families who are involved in the different services within the agency and are invited to fill out a Wish List for their children with the needs or wants the child may have. These wishes should be $25.00 or less. Many of our families list clothing as a primary wish for their children along with any age-appropriate toy. These Wish Lists are then matched with donors who would like to provide a gift or two from the wish list for each child in that family. Families can range from having one to several children. We also have children in Resource Care or other out of home placements who can be a part of this program. The gifts are prepared at our Perth Amboy office and delivered to the parents or picked up the week or so before the holiday. We prefer the gifts to be unwrapped so the parent can know what the child will be receiving. Some donors choose to provide wrapping paper for the parent. Some donors also choose to add a gift card from Target, Walmart or a food store such as Shop-Rite to assist with a holiday meal. Families and children also have needs beyond the holidays so the Skills program is always collecting baby items such as diapers, baby clothes and toiletries, Walmart and Target gift cards along with food store gift cards in any amount. These items are given throughout the year on an as needed basis to reduce food insecurity and provide for basic needs.
