Unity Square employee, Michelle Gil and Holy Family Parish intern, Nathalie Cuadros fill distribution bags with personal protective equipment (PPE). Forty-eight thousand masks were donated to Catholic Charities Diocese of Metuchen by Nikolaos & Margaret Renieris of National Bio+Green Sciences, LLC, located in Somerset County, NJ.
Students from the World Language Honor Societies from Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung recently hosted a diaper drive to benefit Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen’s New Brunswick childcare programs and Unity Square Neighborhood. Senior students from the Mount Language Honor Societies used their talents to create a video (https://vimeo.com/473424318 ) to promote the diaper drive. The drive was extended due to the large response from Mt Saint Mary Academy families.
Youth leaders of the Next Level social justice program and their mentors, including Monsignor Joe Curry, Parochial Vicar at Saint Matthias, Somerset, and recipient of the 2019 CCDOM Champion Award, sorted and filled 150 grab and go bags for the residents of Unity Square on Tuesday, July 28th.
Catholic Charities’ Unity Square held an open house event: “Martin Luther King Jr. and Paul Robeson: Continuing Their Legacy” on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 81 Remsen Avenue in New Brunswick. One hundred and twenty people attended the event which was presented by Rutgers Collaborative Center for Community-Based Research and Service, The City of New Brunswick and Catholic Charities’ Unity Square.
Erio Rosario-Perales is not your typical student. A graduate student at Rutgers, Erio is a full time employee at Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen with a passion for social justice. Erio originally studied Human Resources Management with a minor in Labor Studies. During his junior year, Erio took a course for his labor studies minor that would change his life.
Under the leadership of new Program Director Jennifer Hinton, Unity Square, a community development and social concerns initiative of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, is looking forward to working with its partners Holy Family Parish and New Brunswick Tomorrow to continue to empower community members and catalyze change in New Brunswick.
